Meet Africa’s captains of construction driving the infrastructure boom

Africa is in the midst of a 20 to 30 year infrastructure development boom.  Africa’s growth story continues in 2015 with infrastructure development remaining at the forefront of the continent’s growth trajectory.  Last year
South Africa recorded an average increase of new construction work of 3.5% with every dollar spent on capital projects generating between 5% and 25% of economic returns.  Although South Africa and Nigeria continue to be the continent’s two biggest spenders on infrastructure, there is still a lack of cross-border collaboration which remains vital to foster trade and allow for complementary development to occur throughout the sub-Saharan region.
The world is eager to do business with Africa, but construction industry stakeholders continue to find it difficult to access African markets, especially hinterland countries, due to poor infrastructure. The African Construction and Totally Concrete Expos offer a unique proposition for both local construction industry stakeholders as well as new entrants to the market who are looking to navigate the myriad opportunities cropping up with governments across the continent committing billions of dollars to infrastructure. These combined events unite over 6000 participants from over 40 countries worldwide with Africa’s construction industry visionaries and veterans who will be in attendance for the premiere Captains of Construction: Leadership Forum.

“These leading industry events combined provide a platform for the entire cement, concrete and construction eco-system to share the latest applications in concrete engineering and building technology available for Africa as well as focus on key issues affecting the South African and African construction industry,” says Itumeleng Dlamini, Executive Director of Master Builders South Africa. The African Construction and Totally Concrete Expos host C-level executives and government officials in Johannesburg this May for an exclusive, invitation-only African Construction CODESA held during the Captains of Construction: Leadership Forum that will enable necessary communication, negotiation and balancing of plans in the industry so that reasonable costs and successful projects are achieved. The exclusive Captains of Construction Forum will be hosted by Max du Preez, Author, Columnist and Documentary Filmmaker form South Africa.

Sponsored by PPC Cement, Mota-Engil Africa, Pan Mixers South Africa, AfriSam, Builders Warehouse and Weza Afrika Construction, the African Construction and Totally Concrete Expos is Africa’s highest profile event for the construction industry and Africa’s first ever three-storey exhibition.

Supported by over 60 leading industry stakeholders such as the Association of Citizen Contractors Tanzania, the Kenya Federation of Master Builders, Master Builders South Africa, Gauteng Partnership Fund, the American Concrete Pavement Association and many more, the African Construction and Totally Concrete Expos provide a crystal clear picture of where the industry is headed and what tools are needed to emerge as a leading construction industry stakeholder in the African built environment of tomorrow.
