Tanzania: NHC Extends Building Services to Busokelo

NATIONAL Housing Corporation (NHC) has embarked on the construction of 50 low cost residential houses to accommodate
staff members of Busokelo district council in Mbeya region.
Addressing hundreds of residents who turned up for a public rally at Lwangwa Primary School on Friday, Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda said the project will offset housing shortages.
"The Prime Minister's Office approved the loan application for Busokelo district council which categorically specified the housing project. Judging from the growing demand for accommodation and urbanization process, it was vital to endorse the credit," Pinda explained.
He added, that residents will be allowed to acquire the houses and honour payment through installments," Pinda explained. The value of the entire project is estimated at 1.1bn/-.
Busokelo is one the newest district councils that requires improved infrastructure to cope with the current pace of socioeconomic development.
NHC maintains that Phase One of the project that covers the construction of 14 houses started in July last year and scheduled for completion in August 2015.
The district council has committed at least 500m/- to enhance implementation. Commenting on the project, Minister of State, President's Office, Prof Mark Mwandosya, legislator for Rungwe East, commended the initiative which he said would serve as an additional source of income for community development.
He reminded the residents of their obligation to take advantage of the availed opportunity. The Premier is scheduled to go to Chunya district for the inauguration of school laboratories and the Mbuyuni water project.
