Ethiopia: Responsible Investment Said Key to Tackle Challenges in the Great Lakes

Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn said responsible investment has to be the way forward to contribute to inclusive business and sustainable development in the Great Lakes region.

He made the remark on Wednesday at the Great Lakes Private Sector Responsible Investment Roundtable held at the UNECA.
The roundtable brought together selected groups of private sector leaders and regional actors to explore how responsible investment can contribute to inclusive business and sustainable development in the region.
It has aspired to greater responsible investment with a view to promoting peace, stability, regional economic integration and job creation in the Great Lakes region.
Speaking at the roundtable, Prime Minister Hailemariam said responsible investment has to be the way forward to contribute to inclusive business and sustainable development in the Great Lakes region.
Special envoy to the UN Secretary General in the Great Lakes region, Mary Robinson said, though there are signs of improvement in the region, a lot remains to be done to ensure economic and human rights of the majority of the population in the region.
Rwandese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Nsengimana Joseph for his part stated countries of the Great Lakes region have to learn a lot from Ethiopia on how to maintain peace and stability in their respective regions.
The roundtable has provided a unique space for dialogue on efforts undertaken individually and in partnership to mobilize private sector engagement in support of the implementation of the peace, security and cooperation framework of the region.
