Tanzania: Women in Seven Regions to Be Taught Business Skills

WOMEN in the country have been urged to change the way they do business and ensure they
keep records and save for their businesses to be sustainable and profitable.
The call was aired here on Thursday evening by the Minister of Community Development, Gender and Children, Sophia Simba while launching a women economic empowerment campaign dubbed "Mwanamke na Uchumi."
"Keeping records of business dealings and ensuring that we make savings from the profits accrued from the business is very crucial. I commend the organiser of this initiative since empowering women goes a long way in benefitting the whole community," the minister said.
A brainchild of a local organisation Angels' Moment under Managing Director Naima Malima, the campaign seeks to provide free of charge training on entrepreneurship skills to women in seven regions namely Dodoma, Mwanza, Kigoma, Ruvuma, Coast, Lindi and Tanga. The minister urged Ms Malima to work together with community development officers in the respective regions.
"These officers are at the grassroots can identify for you women groups. I call upon women in these regions to make full use of this opportunity towards prosperity," she noted.
The minister noted further that the fourth phase government under President Jakaya Kikwete recognises the need to empower economically various groups in the society particularly women and youth.
